About Last Night . . .

I should have posted this last night, but things ran rather late. We attended our monthly waiting families meeting last night -- with circumstances more than a little altered. Sandi is attending a class for work in Sevierville today and tomorrow, so we went there first to get her checked into her hotel room. This, of course, means that I have approximately thirty-six hours of bachelorhood; relax, I am bathing.

To be honest, I was not particularly looking forward to this month's meeting, since we had just attended a day-long orientation last week. The situation was not helped by the lack of a concrete topic for the evening's session. I was pleasantly surprised, though. Mark and Terri had a varied slate of stuff for us to discuss; most of the time was spent talking about the openness questionnaire we filled out as part of the application. The form is a three-page document which asks about various situations to which you are either open, not open, or willing to consider. The circumstances it mentions include various medical history and pre-natal care issues, as well as the amount of contact with birthparents and the ethnicity of a potential child. It was good to see the form again, because it was the very first thing Sandi and I filled out. During our interviews, Mark will be whipping out our form to again go over our answers. No matter what, the questionnaire is never 'set in stone;' we as adoptive parents must approve any situation which arises down the road.

This afternoon, I finished my second adoption book. That's the good news; the bad news is that my last book is twice as long as the one I just completed. Sandi assures me that it should be pretty readable; it is a collection of individual adoption stories, which I should be able to tackle one at a time.
